Starting 2025 with Clarity and Intention

As the new year dawns, there is a collective energy of hope, renewal, and the opportunity to redefine our paths. It’s a moment where we can pause, take stock of where we’ve been, and step forward into 2025 with clarity and intention.

At Kerryn Bricknell Coaching, I believe in the power of starting strong, not with overwhelming resolutions that fizzle out by February, but with a deep alignment to your core values and a focus on intentional living. Over the past few years, I have helped many clients intentionally move towards their dreams and start to live a life of purpose. Let’s explore how you can begin this year with clarity and purpose, creating a foundation for the life you truly desire.

Reflect Before You Plan

For the past 36 years, my husband and I have always gone away for our wedding anniversary to celebrate. It’s a tradition that has become cherished not just for the joy of marking our special day but also for the reflection it inspires.

Over time, it has become a known fact to my husband—and now to my kids—that I cheekily include a reflection time as part of our celebration. We look back at the past year: what we’ve done, what we’ve accomplished, what we haven’t, and what we need to work on. Then we dream and set our goals for the next year. This simple practice keeps us connected, aligned, and intentional about our life together.

Clearly understanding our values—what is important in each season together and as a family—helps us define our intentions and goals to ensure they are aligned. Before setting intentions, take a moment to reflect on the past year. Ask yourself:

  • What brought you the most joy?
  • What challenges taught you valuable lessons?
  • Where did you feel most aligned with your true self?

Journalling these reflections can provide clarity on what you want to carry forward and what you’re ready to release. It’s through understanding your journey that you can identify the changes you want to make.

Define Your Core Values

Your core values are the compass that guides your decisions and actions. When you’re clear on what truly matters to you, it’s easier to set intentions that align with your authentic self. Take a moment to identify your top three to five values. These might include family, growth, creativity, or service.

If you’re unsure of your core values, I recommend using the Life Wheel exercise to explore different areas of your life and uncover what lights you up. Click here to access the Life Wheel exercise. This process can help you anchor your goals in values that resonate deeply.

Set Intentions, Not Resolutions

Resolutions often focus on fixing what we perceive as wrong. Instead, let’s shift the focus to setting intentions—clear, positive statements about how you want to show up in the world. For example:

  • Instead of saying, “I need to lose weight,” you might set the intention, “I will nurture my body with nourishing foods and joyful movement.”
  • Instead of “I’ll stop procrastinating,” you could say, “I’ll create systems that support productivity and focus.”

Intentions invite a sense of purpose and self-compassion, allowing you to move forward with grace rather than pressure.

Create a Vision for 2025

A powerful way to step into the year with clarity is to create a vision of what you want 2025 to look and feel like. Visualisation can help you connect emotionally to your goals and make them more tangible. Consider creating a vision board that helps you align with what is really important to you. Place it in a strategic location where you can see it daily, allowing it to serve as a constant reminder of where you are heading and what you truly desire. You might also try writing a “letter to your future self,” describing your life one year from now as though it’s already happening. Take Aligned Action

Clarity and intention mean little without action. Break your intentions into small, actionable steps. Focus on one or two priorities at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Remember, progress is more important than perfection.

Here are some examples of aligned actions:

  • If your intention is to deepen connections, schedule regular time for meaningful conversations with loved ones.
  • If your intention is personal growth, sign up for a workshop or coaching program that supports your journey.

Celebrate Your Wins

Finally, make it a habit to celebrate your progress along the way. Whether it’s a small milestone or a big achievement, acknowledging your efforts reinforces positive momentum and keeps you motivated.
